How to Grease Seppi M. Attachments

Seppi M. daily maintenance tips
Your attachment operates under harsh conditions day after day. From abrasive work and debris filled jobsites, to hot weather, cold weather, and long work hours, Seppi M. attachments are built tough to handle everything you can throw at it. But you also have to do your part to ensure it is properly maintained and ready to hit the forest or the field day after day. One of the most important things you should do on a daily basis is grease your attachment.

Cleaning comes first
Before starting to lubricate your attachment, the first step is to clean all the lubrication points and grease pump nozzles. Failure to do so can allow contaminants to enter critical joints and components, potentially leading to increased wear or damage. Be sure to clear all debris near the greasing points and then use a rag to remove dirt and dust.

When to grease attachments
Most grease points on your Seppi M. machine need to be lubricated every eight hours of use. Refer to your user guide for information on greasing intervals for specific parts. We recommend greasing your rotor bearings at the end of the day when the bearings are warm, rather than in the morning when they are cold to ensure adequate lubrication.

Don't over grease your attachment
Adding too much grease to the rotor bearing can be just as detrimental to your attachment as adding too little. Pumping in too much grease can blow out the seals, which then allows dirt and contaminants into the bearings. To ensure you add the right amount, you should only use a hand pump grease gun with a pistol grip so that you can feel the pressure build and know when you've added enough. Battery operated grease guns can be too aggressive. Your other option is to raise the machine and spin the rotor by hand. When the bearings are full of grease the rotor will slow down and be slightly harder to spin.

Use the right grease
We recommend only using EP or extreme pressure grease to lubricate your Seppi M. attachments. In addition to the normal protective film provided by the lubricant, EP grease contains solid lubricants that bond to the surface of the metal and adds a sub-layer that prevents metal to metal contact. Extreme pressure grease will reduce friction and wear when the lubricant film gets too thin or breaks.

Additional lubrication tips
Don't forget to grease the PTO shaft and guards, as these parts experience high levels of torque load when the machine is in operation. Also, if you have a torque limiter installed on the shaft it is advisable to remove it once a year or every 1000 hours and replace the white lithium grease inside it. Lastly, it's a good idea to look for damage or signs of abnormal wear on your attachment as you walk around doing your greasing.
